CNN asks “Can
Sandy Baruah save the SBA?”
Since the SBA is the US federal government’s Small Business Administration,
perhaps the question ought to be “Should he bother?”
There is something inherently wrong in the very concept of
government, especially national government on a scale too big to handle
anything small, setting up a bureaucracy to “help” small business.
The best way that any government can help small business is
to stay out of its way – and abolish as much bureaucracy as possible.
So the best advice to Mr Baruah is “Abolish your own job.”
Since he is obviously going to do nothing of the sort, the
best advice to small businesses is to grab any soft money on offer from such
organisations, and anything else you can get out of them that might be of use.
Be assured that you are paying for it many times over in
high taxes and unnecessary compliance costs, so reclaim a little of your own
whenever you get the chance.
