Pub landlords and bar
owners in Britain may be liable under new laws for “sexual discrimination” if
their barmaids are offended by the flirtatious banter of their customers.
Who thinks up such
nonsense?
It is not the
barmaids.
Anyone in the
hospitality industry should know and accept that their role is to make their
customers feel comfortable and relaxed. To seek work there and then complain
when one gets what one seeks would be hypocritical.
Barmaids understand
this. So, at another level, do female entrepreneurs. They know that they have
chosen to work in a rough, competitive environment. Most are eager to prove
they can handle it as well, or better, than men, and would not have it any
other way.
Women in the private sector
are – on the whole – a sensible, well-adjusted bunch. They struggled for
decades for equal access to the workplace, knowing full well what they would
find there.
These stupid laws do
not come from them, but from politicians and bureaucrats – male and female –
who have never had a proper job, or run a business, in their lives.
